Provides and documents direct patient care for patients under the direct supervision of a wound care clinician or provider. While the general age of the patient is adult through geriatric, there may occasionally be infants through pediatric patients. The care will include a safe, comfortable and confidential environment.
1. Assist the wound care clinician/provider in collection of data throughout the clinic visit.
a. Completion of clinic checklists and intake forms
b. Performs and documents the results of diagnostic testing i.e. Dopplers, vital signs, wound measurements, wound characteristics, and photo journalism.
2. Implement care in manner consistent with hospital and unit specific standards and scope of practice.
a. Assists with the positioning, lifting, or transfer of patients to provide comfort and privacy specific to all patient populations.
b. Assists and supports staff with wound dressing and modalities.
c. Assists and supports staff with the removal of and application of casts, splints, braces, specialty wraps; assists with the education and follow-up monitoring of the effectiveness of treatment.
d. Provides hygiene and skin care in the clinic to designated patients by the wound care clinician/provider.
e. Recognizes an emergency situation and remains calm, reacts according to hospital policy and immediately reports to wound care clinician/provider.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High school graduate or equivalent, with education, certification, licensure, or degree in a medical field preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
One year of patient care experience preferred
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
BLS certification through AHA required.
For the required minimum education, certification, licensure or degree in a medical field, preference is given to the following areas: Patient Care Tech, Athletic Training, Certified Nursing Assistant, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, or Medical Assistant.
Two (2) years direct care with patients including wound dressing and assisting with minor surgical procedures preferred.
Ability to perform diagnostic testing and checklist completion preferred.
Experience with Doppler use preferred.
Experience in billing and use of databases preferred.
