Description

JOB PURPOSE:
Maintains recommended standards for set assembly, decontamination, inspection, containerizing and sterilizing surgical instruments in an accurate and timely manner. Performs sterilization, assembly and storage of medical supplies and equipment. Leads the day-to-day operational work flow. Responsibilities include staffing, monitoring staff performance, providing staff education, inventory control, management of sterile processing information database, and implementing and directing Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement initiatives for the department. Acts as a liaison between customers, technical staff, medical staff, and other departments within the hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Acts as clinical resource for sterile processing staff members using evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards.
2. Leads the day-to-day operations.
3. Responsibilities include staffing, monitoring staff performance, inventory control, and management of sterile processing information database.
4. Participates in education and training in-service programs for the staff.
5. Implements and directs Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement initiatives for the department.
6. Acts as a liaison between customers, staff, and other departments within the hospital.
7. Processes instruments and equipment.
a. Orders, restocks and decontaminates sterilization equipment and instruments.
b. Collects dirty equipment and instruments.
c. Sorts, loads, unloads and decontaminates equipment and instruments according to procedures.
8. Ensures specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use.
9. Monitors, coordinates, and facilitates sterilization process.
a. Assembles trays, basin sets, packages, instruments and equipment and prepares items for sterilization.
b. Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required; handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately.


Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
High School graduate or GED.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three years of Central Service Processing or Operating Room Procedural Support Technician experience or Surgical Tech Experience
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
None.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Central Service Processing Technician Certification, or Certified Operating Room Technician Certification required or Surgical Tech Certification
