Description

The LPN is a licensed practical nurse responsible and accountable for the nursing care of a group of residents for a designated time frame. The LPN is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care given to designated residents and their families when acting as a team leader. Acts as a resident advocate ensuring that resident needs are met through a collaborative effort of all health care disciplines. The LPN may function as a primary nurse and is supervised by a RN: accountability is monitored through resident care conferences, QA & I activities, and performance appraisals.


Requirements

EDUCATION

 

Graduate of an accredited LPN training program.

 

CERTIFICATION
 

Current licensure in the State of Georgia as an L.P.N.

Obtains and maintains CPR Skills

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Recent experience (within 4 years) as LPN in Long-term care or hospital setting preferred.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

 

Ability to think critically and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.

 

Nursing knowledge of growth and development relevant to the ages of the residents served.

 

Nursing knowledge of the diseases and health care needs of the resident population served.

 

Assessment skills sufficient to interpret and analyze resident health data; identify nursing problems; prioritize needs; and develop an individualized plan of care.

 

Evaluation skills adequate to evaluate resident response to care and take appropriate action.

 

Competence in interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with residents, families, visitors, team members, physicians, and other personnel with whom daily interactions must take place.

 

Basic knowledge of and skills in management sufficient to effectively supervise team personnel when acting as Team Leader.

 

Competence in interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively as a team member on a team with varying levels of health care workers.

 

Problem solving skills sufficient to allow effective problem/conflict resolution.

 

Demonstrates traits of initiative and dependability.

 

Ability to perform efficiently and effectively under stress.

Physical Demands

Ability to:

Stand for long periods, 6-8 hours

Sit for extended periods of time

Bend and stoop

Walk for long periods of time

Lift and position and transfer residents, not to exceed 40 lbs. when acting alone

Heavy equipment/supplies up to 40 lbs. (transport residents, supplies and equipment)

Sensory: Sight to observe patient symptoms

Auditory to hear residents, measure blood pressure, evaluate heart & lung sounds and respond to auditory alarms/signals.

Tactile to feel resident symptoms (warmth, induration)

Olfactory to smell disease-specific smells and safety hazards.
