Adv CMA - Surgical Oncology
Overview:
A Brief Overview
Responsible for providing a variety of patient care activities under the supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider (APP), or registered nurse in accordance with established guidelines and standards. Demonstrates advanced technical skills and provides peer leadership in the physician practice setting.
Responsibilities:
What you will do
- Meets and greets patients, obtains appropriate patient information and medical history, accurately completes and documents patient medical and physical histories and other related items in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Records vital signs; performs EKG, spirometry and or other similar office procedures; aids licensed staff during treatment, examination, and or testing of patients, which may include injections and immunizations. Advises physician and or nurse of patient's adverse reaction to medication and/or treatment to medication and/or treatment.
- Performs lab duties, including but not limited to: phlebotomy, order entry, specimen collection, establishes chain of custody if applicable, and labels for delivery to appropriate authority for testing.
- Under the supervision of a licensed personnel, distributes educational information and instructions for patient care, diagnostics, and other appropriate treatments.
- Coordinates telephone and in-basket requests to refill prescription drug medications and report test results in accordance with provider instructions; responds accordingly to other requests under a physician or other licensed provider's guidance.
- Prepares and maintains examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Practices Standard Precautions, including handwashing and disposal of bio-hazardous materials; complies with established risk management, HIPAA, and safety procedures.
- Attends required meetings, in-services, and participates in committees as required. May assist with the planning and implementation of office-based in-services and competency testing.
- Trains and mentors staff; assists with the orientation of new and temporary staff, may serve as a preceptor for new clinical staff. May coordinate the activities of others assigned to a designated area. Functions as back up for the Back Office Coordinator (BOC) as needed.
- Functions as a Safety Coach, EPIC Super User and/or EPIC Subject Matter Expert.
- Assist with administrative duties as needed, to include procedure scheduling and completion of medical and physical history forms and other related information requested by third party payors.

Qualifications:
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Preferred and
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or a Nursing Assistant program. Required or
- In Lieu of formal education program, five (5) years of medical assistant or related clinical experience Required
- 2 years of experience in a medical office setting with the completion of a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program. Required or
- In lieu of degree /certification from a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant program, five (5) years of medical assistant or related clinical experience Required
- Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
- Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficient computer skills.
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required and
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA Upon Hire Required or
- CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Upon Hire Required
- Additional applicable clinical certifications (i.e. Phlebotomy, EKG, X-Ray, etc.) Preferred
