Responsibilities:
The Mammography Technologist performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in patients. The Mammography Technologist performs a variety of tasks involving the operation of mammographic radiographic equipment and other equipment/devices as appropriate. Demonstrates ability to perform advance breast imaging procedures such as stereotactic and MRI biopsies and is competent/proficient with sterile procedures. Provides more complex technical care necessary to meet identified patient needs.
What you will do
- Performs quality screening, diagnostic and other mammography procedures.
- Reviews all exam requisitions for pertinent information and makes notes on all additional pertinent information.
- Demonstrates competence and proficiency in performing all required exams on patients, positioning the patient and equipment, selecting the protocol, technique and utilizing all required equipment.
- Evaluate images for diagnostic quality, obtaining additional images as needed.
- Ensures accuracy of each exam by following established procedures and labeling images correctly.
- Provide Customer Service/Support to patient population.
- Maintains all required records, reports, and files as required by Federal, State and other regulatory agencies.
- May be required to demonstrate competence and proficiency in performing all radiological procedures on patients of all age groups. Positions patient, selects the correct protocol, and utilizes all required equipment.
- Maintains proficiency to perform breast imaging interventional procedures.
- Acts as a mentor for residents and junior technologists.
- Ensures department meets all regulatory requirements.
- Regularly assumes responsibilities and provides direct care for the more complex patients.
- Must be competent and proficient to position, select correct protocol and utilize imaging equipment on patients of all age groups for radiological exams, when requested.
- Coordinates in the absence of the lead technologists.
- Ensures the department meets all regulatory requirements.
- Serves as a preceptor for department.
- Functions independently with little guidance from manager.
- Participate in the ACR accreditation process.
- Assist lead technologists with evaluating staff competencies annually.
Qualifications:
Education
- Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology program or JRCERT accredited hospital-based training program Required
Work Experience
- 2 years experience as a Mammography Technologist Required
Licenses and Certifications
- (R) ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer Registered Radiologic Technologist in Radiography (R) Upon Hire Required and
- (M) ARDMS or ARRT - Mammography Mammography (M) - ARRT Upon Hire Required
- BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
